INSPIRE US: Solange "Losing You"

You can find photographic inspiration anywhere. Everything about this video is photographically beautiful. From the muted saturation to the light flares...it's perfect. Melina Matsoukas' visual style is beautiful. Here is the article about the song and vid: Pitchfork.com CLICK HERE.

Note: We recognize that the video is beautifully made and is a celebration of life and culture, but that there is nothing romantic or beautiful about poverty and the gross unequal distribution of wealth that exists in various places on this planet.

PROJECT #4: CLOSE-UP (Macro)

DUE: 20 photographs brought to class on Friday, Oct 12 for B Day classes, and Monday, Oct  15 for A Day classes.  10 images digitally processed and posted to your blog by Tuesday, Oct. 16 at 3:30pm.

Macro photography refers to photographs made with a lens that allows the photographer extreme close-ups.  It is an image where the subject on the negative or image sensor is life size or greater. If it is recorded life size on the negative/sensor we refer to that ratio of as "1:1".

For our purposes - and since I don't necessarily want you to purchase a specialized macro lens - we'll call this project close-up photography.

This is the symbol that denotes close-up/macro mode on point-and-shoot cameras.
