CAMERA OBSCURA (Latin for "dark chamber")- a blacked-out chamber with a small pinhole through which light gets compressed. First recorded observation was by Mo Ti, in China, circa 400 BC/BCE. 



EXPOSURE TRIANGLE
Three settings on a camera to achieve acceptable exposure for a photograph.







APERTURE
The opening into a camera.
Aperture can be adjusted to let in more/less light as needed for correct exposure.

Depth of field = the distance between the nearest and furthest elements in a scene that appear to be acceptably in focus in an image.


 


SHUTTER SPEED 
The speed at which the aperture opens & closes.

   






ISO 
The sensitivity (to light) of the camera's sensor
The HIGHER the ISO NUMBER, the MORE SENSITIVE the sensor.
Higher ISO numbers are needed for low light




RULE OF THIRDS
A method for composing an image wherein one places the main subject matter at one of the intersecting points of the thirds' grid. 



LEADING LINES
A technique of composition where the viewer's attention is drawn by lines to the main subject of the image.





























WHITE BALANCE (WB)
The temperature of the light you are photographing.
